THE Palmwoods Singers Theatrical Society, flushed with the sell-out success of last year’s concert, is set to tread the boards again.
Walking in Sunshine is being performed at the Palmwoods Memorial Hall on Saturday, May 13, at 2pm and 7pm.
Musical director Marji Murray said that what started as a relatively straightforward program of ’50s and ’60s songs quickly took on a life of its own and turned into a spoof musical comedy celebrating the 50th anniversary of the naming of the Sunshine Coast.
She said she and Singers member Pat Atkinson shared a passion for live musical theatre, and the show had elements of pantomime, farce and drama as well as good old-fashioned fun.
The show is set against the Sunshine Coast of the ’60s and the music that was popular at that time.
“It was an era with wonderful, memorable songs and a culture of its own – we’ve tried to reflect that in a spirit of fun,” Pat said.
“It makes us laugh. We’re hoping that as it’s being performed on May 13, some people will come for a Mother’s Day treat.”
The performance is sponsored by the Sunshine Coast Council 50th year anniversary fund.
Admission is $10 and refreshments will be available.
